I have been making up some key chains and coffee cozies lately.  Today I thought I would share my Owl Key Chain pattern with you.

I saw this little owl on Pinterest, but the link took me to Etsy.  I can’t remember if it was for the pattern or the owl, but it was sold.  I loved the little own and thought I could come up with something similar.  I decided to make a small one and then I made it so that I could stuff it and make it into a key chain.

One of my friends also liked them but she suggested leaving it unstuffed and using it as a pouch for her keys.  I made hers a little bigger and added a snap to it.

Ok… and here is the pattern, please bare with me, it is only the 2nd one I have actually written down and shared.  I hope you will be able to understand it.

 

Owl Key Chain

Hook-F  Done in rounds

• Ch. 2
• 6 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook
• 2 sc in each (12)
• 1 sc in next stitch, then 2 in next sc (18)
• sc in next 2 stitches then 2 sc in next stitch (24)
• sc in the next 3 stitches, 2 sc in next (30)
• Rounds 7-17 sc in each stitch
• Round 18- sc next 3 stitches, then sc2tg in next, dc next 4 stitches, sc next 3 stitches, sc2tg, 2 times, dc next 4 stitches, sc next 2 stitches
• fasten off tail, long enough to sew.
• add your felt eyes, and safety eyes or google eyes, beak and wings
• stuff and stitch the top closed.

Wings- now this is a little different… with the smaller yarn it worked fine, but when I started using the sugar and cream I had to adjust it.  Just play around with it

Wings (smaller size yarn)

• sc 4
• 2 dc in 2nd ch. from hook, hdc in next ch, 3 sc in last stitch, working on opposite side of foundation chain, hdc in next hdc, 2 dc in next ch.  Join with slip stitch.  Fasten off with long enough tail to sew to body

Wings (larger yarn)  (just play with it… Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t and I would do it different each time)

• sc 10
• 2 dc in 2nd ch from hook
• dc in next 4 stitches,hdc in next 3 stitches, 3 sc in last stitch, working on opposite side of fdc, hdc in next 3 hdc, then dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in last stitch.  Join with slip stitch and fasten off, leaving tail to sew onto body.

The wings are basically a leaf pattern, so if you can’t understand my instructions you can search for a leaf pattern.  lol  Or wing pattern.. However you want to do it!

Crochet cellphone holder

I have been wanting something for my phone that I could also carry my license and debit card with.  I have seen a few purses like it but I wanted to crochet something up.  This is just a real quick one and my first one.  I will be making it a little better.  Need to get some little metal u-shaped things, (not sure the official name) so that I can make a strap and either wear it around my neck or make the strap shorter and clip it to that.  I just didn’t have any.  So here is my first pattern and rough draft of it.  I have never shared one of my written patterns because I usually forget to write them down or I just don’t know how to write it.  So… bare with me as I share this.  If you have any questions I hope I can answer them for you!  (sorry only have pics of finished case)

• I used an H hook and sugar and cream yarn

 

• Bag pieces
• 1. Chain 13
• 2. sc in 2nd chain from hook, and sc across, ch 1 turn(12)
• 3. Sc in each stitch, ch1 turn
• 4.  Continue row 3 until it measures about 10 in long.  Once you get done I folded it in half to sew it together.  So you are just sewing up the sides, with the panel below sewed in between one side.

 

• Outside panel
• For the outer panel, I chained 15 and then used the pattern for above to know how long to make it.
• Put the panel piece between the two outer piece sides and sc together or slip stitch together.
• Then I added a border of sc around the outer panel and the top of the bag. To help it look better where you stitched it together
• Add a loop to the outside of the bag, wherever you want and add a button to the panel piece.
• On the inside, since I didn’t want it too bulky I just cut some felt the size of the panels, with a another piece tall enough for my license and debit card, and stitched it to the bag.
• Add your strap, wherever and however you want.

That’s about it.

Mine is really tight but I know it will stretch. I would rather have it too tight than too loose.  I will probably add a strap to the top once it loosens up a bit.

I didn’t have felt to match the pink I used so I used the closest color I had, then I didn’t have embroidery thread to match that pink so I just used the neon green to match the bag.  I have used it for about a week and so far the felt hasn’t stretched too much, which is what I was worried about.  Don’t want to lose either one of those card!!  Maybe if I do put a strap on the top for the phone it will also help those to not fall out.  Might add a flower to it with a snap to make it a little prettier…

Grandma Barbara's Oatmeal Rolls!!

Pin It This will be my first ever tutorial so bare with me!! I tried to take pictures throughout every step I did but you know how it goes sometimes.... I hope this will make sense!  These are the ones I mentioned on Monday in my HHM post.

Getting things ready... Gotta have the recipe, great way to hold it!!

Also gotta have my coffee..  Yep that's my coffee cup!  Forget those little cups!

G'ma Barbara's Oatmeal rolls

1 1/2 Cups Old fashioned oats
1/4 cup oleo                                                      
2/3 Cups brown sugar               
2 teaspoons salt                        

(G'ma's tip)

Set this part out in a covered bowl overnight  

then all you have to do was boil the water and pour!

Put the above in a large bowl and cover with 3 cups of boiling water, stir gently.

Cool to room temperatuure and add 2 pkgs. yeast (4 1/2 tsp.) in 1/3 cup warm water. 

 

Add 5 1/2 to 7 cups flours. Add flour until fairly stiff. 

 

Knead on floured board until fairly smooth.

oh and don't forget to eat the flour.... um... yeah

Put dough into greased bowl and cover. 

Let rise until double in bulk. 

Shape into rolls and dip into melted oleo. Place on cookie sheet or cake pan (cake pan with make them a little better) and let rise until double in bulk.

Bake at 375 degrees for 15 - 17 minutes or until lightly browned.

Then enjoy!!  Add some butter, or spray butter which I sprayed on top on some of them, and then honey if you like 'em sweet!  YUM-O!!

Ok, so it's not perfect but I finally figured out how to make my own background!!  Well, I googled it and found some great sites that had some tutorials on how to do it.  I use Paint Shop Pro Photo XI and have been using that one for about 4 years now so I had to play with it and figure out how to do it because everything was for Photo Shop.  (Still can't figure that one out.  lol)

I went and looked at her page but not sure where it is.  I think I actually found it here...Digi Scrap Depot a friend of mine told me about this place and they have a lot of freebies with links to the site to download them.

The ribbon I used on the header and on the side as the border around the posts is Correen Silke by {Computer}Scrapbook.com 

The pink flower paper as the background in the header is from Mamrotka Designs I think it is called Mamrotka_June_p02, anyways that's what it comes up as.  

The frame around in the header is from Digital Scrapbook Place  and I think the name is DSPBirthdayBonus300 

The lighter pink in the middle was just a pink I did, you knew I had to have pink somewhere huh!?!  lol

Ok, I hope I got everyone named from the papers and elements I used.  I hope so!!
