Seat Belt Pillow

Maddie saw those cute little Seat Pets on a commercial and of course she wanted one.  I didn’t feel like paying that price so I went to Pinterest to see what I could find.  I found a few cute seat belt pillow idea and decided to go with this one

It’s not perfect but Maddie seems to really like it and it works well too.  She got to help pick out the material and as we were searching through my stash I came across some of her old crib sheets I had saved.  She picked out the OU sheets for me to use.  I was a little worried because it’s white but at least I can wash if need be.

I didn’t take pictures of the process but here’s the final project.

Halloween Shirt- Miss Frankenstein

I was searching around Pinterest the other day for some cute Halloween shirts.  I came across this little boy one and thought it was a very cute idea.  It’s a Frankenstein shirt for little boys and they had it for sale on Etsy.  Mad saw it and loved it but wanted a girl one so we went through my scraps and she picked out all the material and accessories she wanted to use.  We searched for a plain t-shirt at Wal-mart and finally found one in the boys section.  It was on sale for $4 but when we rang it up it was only one dollar!!!  (if Mad and I wouldn’t have been in the bathroom when my loving man was ringing things up I would have went back and got one in every color!)

So.. we got home, cut out the head, hair and of course we had to add pig tails and a cute girl mouth.  Then she found a ‘M’ bead she had and wanted to add a necklace too it.
We used heat and bond to help it stay in place so I could zig-zag around it.  She had me add some stitches to the face too.  I think it turned out pretty cute!!  (might change the eyes once we get some different buttons.. these are all we had)

It’s a little bit bigger than I thought and so was the shirt but now she can hopefully year it for a couple of years!  Guess what she wants to wear to school tomorrow!?!  Smile

This is their top…

Sew and sew

Pin It 001

Here’s some more of our little projects.  Originally I was going to make her some shorts and then add the skirt on top of it so I don’t have to worry about hunting up shorts every time she wears a skirt to school.  I was just getting ready to stitch them together when she decided she wanted a skirt and a pair of shorts so that’s what I did.

I do like these shorts and I actually used a pattern I had, even though I hate using patterns, and they were pretty easy to do.  I love that now I can make her shorts that won’t fall off her butt so much or look like all the daisy dukes they sell in the stores now.  I can’t believe how short shorts and skirts are, how low wasted the paints are and even how short some of the tops are!!  Crazy!!  They are kids!  Let them be kids for awhile not some sex symbol at 5 years old!  Crazy!

Repurposed T-shirt Skirt

As you all have noticed I have been doing some sewing lately.  As I was digging though my material I found an old t-shirt of mine that I really like but it was shorter than I liked but Maddie loved it.  I was sitting there debating on whether to cut it or not and Mad was sitting beside me saying, ‘Do it!  Cut it!  Cut it momma!’  So.. I cute it.  I laid it down and just cut under the arms of the shirt.  I just made a casing on the top and for the elastic and that was it.  Since I didn’t cut the bottom I didn’t have to worry about hemming it since it still had the original hem.  It did turn out pretty cute.  She really likes it!

Sew much fun

This spring break I have been going through my material and making Maddie some new skirts, shorts and a dress.  Hoping to make some more pretty soon in the next day or so.  And who knows.. if I keep digging I might be making more next week!  With all the short shorts out there, for even 5 year olds, I am glad I can make them myself.

This dress I made, I found the material in the salvage section at Wal-mart for $4.31 so I couldn’t pass that up!    I used her old tank dress I made a few years ago for the template on the top and then I just made a skirt and gathered it and added it to the bottom.  It was still a little big and it needed something so I added a ribbon to it so we could tie it and make it fit better.  I think it ties it all together nicely!

Love this material and wish I would have found more.  Decided to do the top horizontally and the bottom vertically.  Kinda like it!

Here’s the top I used for the template.  (was a dress a few years ago)

And here is the dress all done.

I love some of these pictures of her. She had to go pet the neighbors dog but it had been raining so she was holding up her skirt so it wouldn’t get wet.  Too cute!!

Repurposed jean skirt

So yesterday I started to go through some of my material and I found a pair of my jeans and a pair of Maddie’s that I had ripped the inseam out of, intending to make into those jean skirts where you add a triangle piece of material in the middle.

Maddie’s jeans she couldn’t wear anymore, they were too tight around the waist, but she loved the design that was on them.  So, I just cut up my jeans, used both leg sections to make a fuller skirt, then I cut out ‘patches’ from her old skirt and she helped me lay them out on the skirt.  I just stitched them on, of course with hot pink thread, and I left the bottom unhemmed so that when we wash it and over time, it will fray.  She loves the skirt!!  I think it turned out pretty cute myself.  :)

Mad Faces

Pic is from Ruffles and Stuff

I found this wonderful idea by Ruffles and Stuff on Pinterest and I just had to do it.  I should have made it a little bigger but she likes it how it is now too.  I just might make a bigger one later.  Anywho… here’s the wonderful little Face Pillow that we came up with!  She just loves it, and it was perfect for a rainy day like today!

Crafty Tuesday 2
Welcome to Crafty Tuesday!  Crafty Tuesday is to share with others your craftiness, either with things you have made (craftiness or baking because that’s crafty too!) little ideas on fun things with the kids or something cute you have found that you would like to make!  Please feel free to link up and take the button in the sidebar on the right hand side!  Thanks!!!

So… I decided I needed to clean up my sewing area, I had several bags of stuff I needed to go through.  My mom, MIL and aunt have given me a ton of old clothes to use for material and scrap material.  I went through them and got rid of quite a bit of it.  I did find this really pretty material but there wasn’t much of it.  I was so happy when I found out I had enough to make Mad a dress!!

I originally wanted to make a shirred dress but didn’t have enough material to do it so I ended up just putting elastic in the top and then shirred the straps of it.  Added a little flower and a button she found but really loved.  I think it turned out pretty cute!!  The straps are a little long but that’s alright, she’ll grow into it!!

I love it and I think she does too!!!

the back… yes I meant for it to have to split in the back… but only because that is how the material was cut and it would have ended up a shirt if I cut it off!  lol

Fall Tree t-shirt

So if you saw yesterday’s Turkey shirt post then you are here to see what I did with the scraps!  Winking smile  Right?  OK, if not then thanks for just stopping by!
Here is what I did with the scraps of from her hand cut outs.  I made a Fall Tree for her with the scraps.  I also had a few Owls left over that I got from a friend of mine, I’ll talk about her tomorrow, that Mad just had to add because they had flowers on the belly.

Smile

It was so quick and easy until I decided to go ahead and stitch around the edges of these too, by hand!  I used the sewing machine to go around the hands and that was a pain so I just thought, “hey, hand stitching, that will be easier”…. well it was easy but it took forever!  I worked on it from about 6p until midnight and then I still had a little left over to do in the morning!  WOW!  It took forever and my poor fingers are so sore!  I couldn’t imagine making a whole dress or outfit like this!  Thank God I was born in the age of the sewing machine!!
and a few more pictures for you!

Tiny Hands Turkey shirt

I have been wanting to make Mad a turkey shirt for awhile now and I have seen some really cute designs but then I ran across the Tiny Hands Turkey Applique over at Treasures for Tots and I loved that idea!  How simple!  I do this with construction paper with her so why not do it on a shirt?  I have been stocking up on t-shirts from our grocery store.  This weekend they had them 2/$1 so I had to get a few more.  Some of them have a little hole in it or a small stain but that can easily be covered up!
Here is our cute little Turkey hand shirt.
006
After using the heat and bond to put everything on I decided to stitch around it to help keep it from coming off.  I just did a normal stitch and this way when I was it and dry it and it frays some it will have that ‘feathery’ look.  lol  Good thing that’s the style now!
Wanna know what I did with the scraps from her hand print?  Come back tomorrow and check it out!

I found this really cute Fabric Pumpkin tutorial from the wonderful Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom.   They are so cute and so simple to make!  I made a whole pumpkin patch this weekend!!  Gave some away to my mom, mother in law and best friend.  Can't wait to get some more!  Used all the cute fabric I got on Saturday.  Guess I should have gotten more!  I don't normally have orange or fall like fabric.  I have been going through my scraps and the old clothes my family have given me to use for material.  I used an old skirt for one of them  It turned out pretty cute!  (It's the dark brown one with the leaves on it.  My mom gave me some silky material that has orange flowers on it, kinda like morning glories, so I used that and it turned out pretty cute too!)

Here's what I have made so far...
this was my first one I did, out of the skirt.

then the rest :o)

Crafty Tuesday

Pin It Ok since I haven't really done anything, then I will just post a link for this gorgeous top I found. It is really gorgeous and simple to make but I haven't found the right dimensions for me yet. The first one I made fit pretty well except that it ended up being almost a half shirt on me even with the extra 2 inches I added to the length. The next one I did I just added a little more but it turned out to be almost a dress! (it is always hard for me to change it up because I always have to add to it since I am 6' 1") I am going to just cut some of that length off and then finish it up. They aren't the prettiest because I have just been using old sheets. I hate to do a new pattern from nice material until I know how it's going to turn out. Maybe I will have it done and be able to post it with this but don't hold your breath. =)
(I've been so lazy and do these a day or so ahead and just schedule it to post)

Picture of the top is from JCasa Handmade not mine =)
Here is the top I found over at Sew Mama Sew    Jennifer from JCasa *handmade shared with Sew Mama Sew   She has some really cute stuff so pop on over and check her out!!

Rambling Thursday

(Not sure if anyone else does a Rambling Thursday but if anyone wants to join in I will put the button on the blog.)

Well let's see what all has been going on this week?  Monday I cut out the skirt that I made on Tuesday, then I found another shirt, which I've had cut out for almost a year now and is almost too small for her, that I am almost done with.  Finally!
Not sure if I posted this the other day or not but here is the little princess crown we made the other day.  Glad she can still wear that dress she had on, I made that one 2 years ago!

Wednesday we went for a short mile walk before it got too hot, then I busted my butt cleaning out the utility/junk room.  The shelves are still a little messy but it looks 90% better than when I started.  Took out 1 1/2 bags of trash and other stuff that I closed my eyes and threw away because I haven't used in so long but kept because it was cute and thought I would use eventually.  Just all nasty and covered in dust now so I guess they weren't that important to begin with.  It still kills me to throw them away but doubt that the thrift store would have even wanted them.  =)  It is finally organized a little better and I swept and mopped the floor out there but in a day or so it will be all nasty again.  Mad loves playing in mud so I guess it is better to mess up the utility room than the kitchen or living room.  I was hoping to find my big floppy hat so I could wear it in the pool but I think some blonde monster took it and I am not sure where she put it.  It's been missing for about a year now!

We also went to the library, didn't do story time but they had a Magician there for the kiddos at 1p so we went to that.  He was pretty good, well good for the kiddos.  Of course us adults could pick out what he was doing.  There were a few neat tricks that he did and we didn't know how.  He shoved a real bunny into his cardboard cannon and was going to shoot it into a bucket a kid was holding but once he 'lit' the fuse and it supposedly shot across the room there was a turtle in the bucket instead.  That was pretty neat because it def. was not in there to begin with.  Then he showed us the cannon and opened up the mount it was on, let us look under the table and he wasn't there!  It was back in the container it was in before he started the trick.

The kiddos loved it and laughed at pretty much everything he did and thought it was so cool!  Some of the jokes though were a little much for the younger ones to get though.  Maddie had a great time!  We then went to Sonic for Happy Hour and got her a Cherry Limeade slush!  WOW was it ever sour!!!  She loved it though.  We then came home got in the pool for about an hour and let her swim off all that sugar.  She is finally getting a little more brave and tries to put her face in the water.  She is doing really well with blowing bubbles but still doesn't want to go underwater.  She is also trying to swim in her tube floater too.  Trying to teach her how to hold her hands to push the water and that works for about 2 strokes and then she is back to basically splashing.   She also walks around and hops a lot and kind of tries to swim without the floatie now too.  Oh, and she is also jumping off the ladder but I usually have to catch her.  Been working on her just holding my hand and jumping in or having her lay her hand on top of mine and jump in.  (pool is only 3 1/2 feet deep and water is up to her shoulders) So proud of her!!  Hopefully she will get there before the summer is over.

Not sure what today holds for us though.  I think I will just clean a little and then hopefully finish up the top I have almost done.  Just lacks the hem and straps to put on.  Didn't have instructions for it because I have no idea where I put them, so I just did it how I wanted to.  Hoping it comes out alright.  Also got my ring blanks in so I think I will be making some more rings too!  Oh, I guess I need to take some pictures of the other washer necklaces I have made too.  Here is a link for a tutorial.  Not the original site I got mine from but I have searched and now I can't find it.  So here is the one from You Really Made That?

My washers, just need to get the cord and claps for them now.  Which I have just haven't done yet.

Oh and a bonus of the week..... I finally figured out how to get Maddie to clean her room or anywhere for that matter. I have to make it into a race. She tells me I have to say, "1, 2, 3 go!" so we can see how can pick up faster. She always beats me... hmmm... wonder how that happens!?! The only downside to that is that when I am trying to do dishes or something else and want her to go clean up her toys in the living room it doesn't seem to work so well. Think I will start telling her whoever gets done first will get a sticker or something. She loves stickers so hopefully that will work!
