Crochet Doll Clothes

Maddie’s been begging for an American Doll for a while now.  She said she was going to ask Santa for one for Christmas.  I told her if she did that might be the only thing she got.  She was fine with that.  Then one day we were walking through Wal-mart and she saw the My Life dolls and thought that they were the same thing as the American Doll.  That was fine with us!  So my husband decided to get her one with an agreement that it take two of her allowances to help pay for it.  She agreed and picked out her doll.

She asked me to make her some clothes for her.  I didn’t feel like sewing so on Sunday she picked out a top, a skirt, a headband and some boots for me to make.

Then I didn’t care for how short I made the skirt so I could have added a round or two but since she has no under pants I decided to turn them into shorts until I can get some under clothes made for her.

There are a ton of cute little clothes out there for 18” dolls.  Also a bunch of cute ones just to buy if you don’t want to make them.  The ones at Wal-mart for the My Life dolls are only $10 an outfit and the little shoes are only $2 so sometimes its just cheaper and easier to buy them.

Here’s a link to my Pinterest board for doll clothes.

178/365 Flower Potholder

A while back I saw this gorgeous potholder on Pinterest.  The one I repinned was in a different language and I tried to translate it but it still came out crazy.  I finally found this one and gave it a try.  Now, mine’s not as pretty but I still think its beautiful!  I really like the design and think it would be cute to make it again but make it into a purse or Mad (or myself Smile ). So.. one of these days I will get to making the purse!

Here’s a few more I found that I would love to try!  The Hexagon one just might be next!  I still have a few hexagons left over from the Hexy Bag I made a while back… just waiting for me to do something with them!

just click the pictures for the pattern, they are all from the same blog.  She has some great stuff!

Tunisian Stitch

Several months ago I wrote about the Tunisian stitch.  I was so happy because I got a whole bunch of hooks on ebay and couldn’t wait to start!  Well, it is a very fun stitch and very addictive but I never did finish the blanket or the scarf.  I just got started on too many other things… I am still working on my granny stripe blanket but once that is done I think I will start on the Tunisian stitch again.

My friend Mary from Crocheting the Day Away did a wonderful tutorial on the stitch.  It was her first every How-to post but she did an excellent job!  I just wanted to share it.  Here’s a little bit and to read more just click the link and go check her out!

Tunisian Crochet Basic Stitch

Welcome friends! This is my first How-To blog post and I am excited to share with you.

I am going to show you how to Tunisian Crochet. Some of you may have heard of it and others maybe not. Either way, you will learn how to do it today!

Tunisian Crochet is a fabulous way of mixing crocheting and knitting. It’s a back and forth motion of taking stitches on and off the hook with out turning.  And don’t worry if the “knitting” part scares you. I promise you don’t need to know a thing about knitting to do this.

To start off, you need a Tunisian Crochet hook. This is also called an afghan hook.
IMGP3671 edit

As you can see, it’s a long crochet hook…
IMGP3674 edit

… with a stopper at the end like a knitting needle. This is so your stitches won’t fall off the hook
IMGP3672 edit
If you can't get your hands on one of these, you can use one of your regular crochet hooks. This is great to use for practicing. But keep in mind, you can’t make as many stitches and you have to make sure you can keep those stiches on your hook. I recommend putting something on the end of the hook like a hair binder or something like that.

As far as yarn, feel free to use whatever you have on hand that will work with your hook.

IMGP3678 edit
……………………………….
Stitches
Ch- Chain
Yo- Yarn over
Sts- Stitches
Sk- Skip
Sl St- Slip Stitch
Did you notice there’s no single, double, treble (etc.) crochets? That’s why this is so easy!
……………………………….
A big thing you need to know and keep in mind as you do this is that you will go back and forth on your work and never turn. The right side of your work is always facing you.
These will be called The Forward Pass and The Return Pass. The Forward Pass you will be working right to left and The Return Pass you will work left to right. Basically you are just zig-zagging back and forth. I promise it’s not complicated.
Smile
So lets getting started!

Big Tip: Try to work loosely if possible. This will help prevent your work from curling

First we need to do the foundation row, which is one forward pass and one return pass.
Make a slip knot and place it on your hook

IMGP3681 edit

Next you need to chain. You can do as many as you like, but I did 15. A good number to start with when practicing. I also don’t recommend doing too many.
Chain 15

IMGP3682 edit

Now we are going to start The Forward Pass for the foundation row. This will involve simply pulling up a loop in each chain. *You will keep all the loops on the hook as you go.
To start, insert your hook into the 2nd chain from the hook. (The loop on the hook counts as the first loop)

IMGP3683 edit chain

Yarn over

IMGP3684 edit

And pull up a loop. You now have two loops on your hook

For the rest of this wonderful tutorial go and check out Mary from Crocheting the Day Away!  Thanks!!!  Have fun!!

A few weeks ago I made my Aunt and cousins some coffee cozies.  My cousin’s son loved sock monkeys so I made them sock monkey coffee cozies!  They turned out so cute and I even made their daughters some sock monkey purses!  They loved them!!  Of course now Maddie wants a purse now too… just have had time.

So.. here’s the coffee cozy

I have been making up some key chains and coffee cozies lately.  Today I thought I would share my Owl Key Chain pattern with you.
I saw this little owl on Pinterest, but the link took me to Etsy.  I can’t remember if it was for the pattern or the owl, but it was sold.  I loved the little own and thought I could come up with something similar.  I decided to make a small one and then I made it so that I could stuff it and make it into a key chain.
One of my friends also liked them but she suggested leaving it unstuffed and using it as a pouch for her keys.  I made hers a little bigger and added a snap to it.
This one is the one I added the snap to.

and here’s another one.. my first one I made, which of course Mad took!

Ok… and here is the pattern, please bare with me, it is only the 2nd one I have actually written down and shared.  I hope you will be able to understand it.

Owl Key Chain
Hook-F  Done in rounds
  • Ch. 2
  • 6 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook
  • 2 sc in each (12)
  • 1 sc in next stitch, then 2 in next sc (18)
  • sc in next 2 stitches then 2 sc in next stitch (24)
  • sc in the next 3 stitches, 2 sc in next (30)
  • Rounds 7-17 sc in each stitch
  • Round 18- sc next 3 stitches, then sc2tg in next, dc next 4 stitches, sc next 3 stitches, sc2tg, 2 times, dc next 4 stitches, sc next 2 stitches
  • fasten off tail, long enough to sew.
  • add your felt eyes, and safety eyes or google eyes, beak and wings
  • stuff and stitch the top closed.

Wings- now this is a little different… with the smaller yarn it worked fine, but when I started using the sugar and cream I had to adjust it.  Just play around with it

Wings (smaller size yarn)
  • sc 4
  • 2 dc in 2nd ch. from hook, hdc in next ch, 3 sc in last stitch, working on opposite side of foundation chain, hdc in next hdc, 2 dc in next ch.  Join with slip stitch.  Fasten off with long enough tail to sew to body
Wings (larger yarn)  (just play with it… Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t and I would do it different each time)
  • sc 10
  • 2 dc in 2nd ch from hook
  • dc in next 4 stitches, hdc in next 3 stitches, 3 sc in last stitch, working on opposite side of fdc, hdc in next 3 hdc, then dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in last stitch.  Join with slip stitch and fasten off, leaving tail to sew onto body.

The wings are basically a leaf pattern, so if you can’t understand my instructions you can search for a leaf pattern.  lol  Or wing pattern.. However you want to do it!

I hope you all have fun, would love to see yours if you make one!

Busy, busy, busy

I know I haven’t been posting lately.. sorry about that.  I haven’t even really been on the computer much the past 2 days!  I didn’t even get on until 9p tonight!  Ok.. so I checked some emails from my phone but that was it.. just emptying the junk out of it.

I have been really busy making up some more coffee cozies for one of our local coffee shops!  A friend of mine, that works in a salon, has let me put some of my stuff in the shop.  Another stylist bought one of my cozies and goes to the coffee shop a lot.  They saw it and asked where she got it and said they wanted to see what all I had!  I was shocked!  They are doing it as kind of a consignment.  I hope they will sell!  I want to call everyday to see if any have sold but I don’t want to bother them either.  lol  I am taking up some more I made tomorrow.   I would have made more but then I started on something else.. which I want to share soooo badly but can’t right now, and then that snowballed into some more stuff.  I am so excited since 2 of them are patterns I just came up with.. and of course didn’t write down.  I have to start writing them down!!

All I did on yesterday and today was clean and crochet.  When my wrist started hurting I took a break to clean then got right back at it.

Here’s some pics of some of the coffee cozies I made… the pretty bright ones I didn’t get pictures of and these are more of the fall color ones.

And here is a sneak peak of what I have been doing.  Winking smile

So I finally got my slippers done… I made Maddie’s a while back and then started on mine… but just didn’t get it done until the other night.   Mine aren’t the cutest and I just used some yarn I had extra.. but now since I think I really like them I will be heading out soon to get some prettier yarn.  I still haven’t added a cute button to the outside either…

Here is the pattern I used.

The Granny Stripe Blanket!

I’ve been wanting to make this beautiful blanket that Lucy over at Attic 24 has done for about a year now and I am finally getting a chance to do it!

Here’s a picture of her blanket and if you click the picture it will take you to her tutorial for it.

I really love the colors she chose but I didn’t have the money for the 17 different skeins she used.  I am using 6 or 7 different colors.  I bought 6 new skeins but I will be throwing in some colors that I have but don’t have a full skein for.  I love this pattern, it is so fun and easy to do!!

One little flower

and so many possibilities!!

I made Maddie this little flower and I just put a little loop on the back.  The loop was a little big but it was perfect for a ring for her!

002

Then when she gets tired of the ring, she can wear it with a barrette …

017

or we can slip it on a head band!  How cute is that!?!

023

and you can even add a pipe cleaner to it!

And here’s one I made for me Smile
