Memory Lane Friday

This weeks theme for Memory Lane Friday is 'A Goof at Work'  Well mine probably isn't the normal kind of goof.  Mine is a goof while coming to work, and I was waving hello to the safety manager and my supervisor.  By our dumpsters they have these long drains down the road and I was too busy saying 'hi' that I didn't notice that one of them was sticking up.  Well, of course I tripped and fell but I fell hard!  (of course it was in front of all the staff and the kids)  I knew I dislocated my shoulder as soon as I did it and it hurt so much!  For some reason I was having trouble getting up so our safety manager and my supervisor came and helped me except they grabbed me under my arms even when I was telling them it was hurting and I thought I had dislocated it.

Then we had to go back inside, I had to fill out all sorts of paper work, as I am trying to keep my arm in a certain position, and try to stop crying and shaking because it hurt so much.  Then my supervisor took me to their Dr, which at least was just around the block, and I had to try to fill out more paper work there, then got some X-ray's.  Finally got me to the ER and I just sat there forever too, no pain meds, nothing to help.  I was not very happy.  Finally I was about to pass out from shock or whatever, but I do remember yelling for my 'damn' meds!  Which I know wasn't very nice but after sitting like that for an hour you really start to lose it a little.

Finally they came, gave me something and then put it back in for me.  My husband had showed up just as I was yelling for my meds.  Yeah, not my best time but what are you gonna do?  Can't go back and change it.  I eventually had to go see their orthopedic surgeon and they scheduled surgery for me.  Once they got in they said that I had knocked lose some of the bone and had broken off bits of cartilage so they ended up putting a little plastic plate in.  Once that was done he put me in a sling and told me not to move it for a month so I didn't break lose the plate, so I did as he asked.  Then the next visit, which was 4 weeks after that, he said, so have we been doing PT?  WHAT!?!  I would have loved to have been but you told me not to move it so I didn't,  Never told me to schedule PT. He scheduled me for PT so I started that but even after 3 months of that I could only lift it straight in front of me, still couldn't wash my hair with 2 hands.  (and after sleeping in a freaking recliner for a month!)

Had to go back in and have another surgery sine we waited so long for PT to start and even after 3 months of PT it wasn't getting any better.  We had to go in and do a manipulation on my shoulder since I hadn't moved it in 4 weeks before the PT.

OK, just to get this story over with we did that and then started therapy 2 days after that.  I am now able to wash my hair with 2 hands but it is still hard to do a lot of stuff.  I can't reach behind me very well, and def can't scratch my back when I need too.  All this after working at my job for 3 months and then I was off for 5 1/2 months!!!  At least my job was good about it.  That was the 'worst' labeled job, janitor, I had ever had but it was also the best!  Decent pay, 11 paid holidays and weekends off!  Couldn't get much better except I was working evenings and hardly ever got to see Maddie.

OK, sorry, bit of a long once but that is my 'work goof'

This week's theme is 'Bad Hair Day'  I guess you could call mine, 'bad hair year!'  I don't know what I was ever thinking with this nasty hair cut!!  So glad when it finally grew out.  Hmmm.....wonder why I don't have a picture of that? lol  I am sure my mom does but not really eager to dig it out besides she just had knee surgery and is still in the hospital so you will have to settle for google pics.

Does anyone remember the rat tail?  Yeah for some reason when I was in 6th grade I thought that was a good idea.  Guess back then, 1986, it was the style.. well what a bad style it was!!!
OK, so mine wasn't like that but it was bad!!  My hair was cut just like a boys but of course I still had the little tail.  UGH!!!

Then for some other reason when I was in high school I decided to get a mushroom cut.  Yeah that was another bad hair cut!  WOW!  So glad when that finally grew out too!!
Here is what I had
Only pic I could find.  lol
   Yeah pretty ugly huh!

This past April I guess I got this cut again but only a little different.  A friend of mine that does hair told me that if I had 10 inches I could donate it to Locks of Love.  That sounded like a good thing to do, it was only a month after my baby cousin had died from cancer and I wanted to give back a little.
When she pulled it back and showed me how short it would be I was alright with it but then when she made the cut it was shorter than that!  It turned out pretty cute though but I guess now, looking back at this picture, I can see why my husband kind of freaked out about it!! lol
Here's what I got this past April.
If you look to the right you can see how long it was before I cut it.
Look how short that top layer was!
Now it is finally growing out a little bit.  It is growing so SLOW though!!!

When my hair was longer and I was having a bad hair day I would just put it in a pony tail but now that it is so short I just use a headband or hat!

Memory Lane Friday

Ok, it had been awhile since I had done Memory Lane Friday and when I went to check on the theme's I totally missed that it was 'Chore Time'.  Now that is a memory I do have about childhood!  SO this week I am doing that one and skipping, 'It was my friends idea' and then I will join in again with the theme next week. Head on over to Two Bears Farm to read some more!

Chores, yeah when we were younger we definitely had those.  During the week I don't really remember having set ones but do remember helping wash dishes, clean off the table, sweep the floor and if the trash was full take it out.  Didn't mind most of that except the washing dishes part.  The plates got scraped but they didn't always get rinsed and were thrown into the sink and of course there were food chunks floating in the water.  Made me want to gag!

Once the weekend got there instead of getting to sleep in we were woke up around 8a or 9a and it was time to start cleaning.  The normal, take your clothes to the washer, dust the living room, vacuum, cleaning your room but the one I hated the most was cleaning the bathroom!  Not sure what it was about cleaning that tub.  I hated cleaning the tub and to be honest I still don't really like doing that part.  I always opted to clean the counters and toilet instead.

Then there was mowing the yard too.  We never did have a riding lawn mower (well until I was 16 and had a job, and couldn't mow) and to this day I have never used one.  Yeah, 35 and can't use a riding lawn mower, keep asking hubby to teach me but says it's 'his' job to mow.  so... I'll let him.

OK, back to the mowing... my brother and I would always fight about who would mow where.  You were lucky if you got the back yard because it was a little smaller and didn't take that long.  I used to get that weekly until I got a little older and then we started taking turns on it. The front yard was big and then there was a ditch in it and that thing was steep and kind of hard to mow.  Mom said she used to be able to hear me screaming and complaining the whole time I was mowing.  Sure the neighbors loved watching that!

Oh, and it wasn't a thing where you could just go out and mow.... one week you had to mow it North-South, the next week maybe squares, then East-West, back and forth, diagonally.  Had to do that so the grass wasn't growing the same way and would be nice and thick and look good.  It was a pain!!!!

I sure was thankful when we got the one that had the bagger instead of having to rake up the clippings.  We usually dumped the clippings in the pasture behind the backyard so the cows would have extra to munch on.  They loved it.

So that is my 'Chore Time'    It was pretty much just helping out daily but the big clean was always Sat when I wanted to sleep in.  Used to think, "No fair" but I think mom woke us up for all those morning when we were little and ended up waking her up.  I know I am going to enjoy waking Maddie up early!!

Memory Lane Friday

It's been a little bit since I have done a Memory Lane Friday and I am going with my own theme.  Not sure what to call it so I will just call it 'The Spaghetti Pot Booster Seat'

I am sure there are many out there that remember when they were younger, too big for the high chair but not big enough for the big chair, that your mom or grandparents would bring out the huge spaghetti pot.  Some times it was just the big Sears catalog and really fat phone book.

There are many times I can remember being at my grandma's for Christmas and having to use any of the things mentioned above.  We never really thought anything about it then but when I was going through my mom's old photo albums I saw my little cousin sitting on a spaghetti pot at one of our Christmas dinner's at Great Grandma's and it just made me smile!!  So funny how it seems every single one of us kids used that same 'spaghetti booster seat'

Memory Lane Friday- A Game

This weeks theme is 'A Game'
The most memorable thing that comes to mind is the Atari game Pitfall.  Does anyone remember Atari?  Well we were so excited to get it for Christmas one year and couldn't wait to start playing.
My brother opening up our joint gift.  This was Christmas 1980.  I would have been 5 and my brother was 8

We had that Pong game and then we had Asteroids, Space Wars and several others.  I remember getting Pitfall for our Dad for Father's Day.  He really loved that and so did we!!  It was so funny watching him play it.  I wish we would have had pictures of that!!  Kids now days would laugh at the graphics we had back then!!

Memory Lane Friday- The 4th of July

This weeks theme is- The 4th of July

The 4th of July has always been great for me but mainly I think because it is my birthday also. I remember when I was younger we would always go to my grandparents house and have a big family thing and pop off the fireworks. When I was real little they said I would sleep through them, then of course came the stage I was scared of them and then when I loved them!

The other favorite thing about the 4th was that they would always make homemade ice cream! I got to choose the flavor most the time so it was usually Butterfinger or we put Peanut Butter cups in it. Sometimes we would just have plain and my mom would make this wonderful chocolate peanut butter sauce. I loved that!!!!

For my birthday cake once I got a little older was Betty Crocker Cherry Chip cake. It is my favorite! I usually don't like frosting, unless it is on a chocolate sheet cake, or cake, again except chocolate sheet cake, but this Cherry Chip cake and it's cherry frosting is the best! It is a little sweet but having it only once a year it is something I still look forward too!

Mom's Chocolate Peanut Butter Sauce  (not sure if I can remember it exactly)
1 cup PB whichever you like crunchy or creamy, we usually used crunchy
1 cup chocolate sauce
1/4c corn syrup
Mix all together and then put in fridge.  Some times we would just make it and serve it.  Good anyway you want it!!

Here's a pic of one of my birthday's where I got some makeup.  I wanted that make up forever!!  Funny how I can still remember that one.  I was 6 years old here.

Of course we can't forget the real reason for July 4th either.  This wonderful country will be 234 years old this year!  We sure have come a long way!!  I love this country and love that we have so much freedom to do what we like.  I couldn't imagine living anywhere else where they don't have the kind of freedom that we have.  God Bless America!  Happy 4th of July everyone!!

Memory Lane Friday- A Birthday

Ok, think I might have to stop this Memory Lane Friday, I have such a bad memory and don't always have the best memories of childhood....

Well, I can't say that I have too many great memories of a birthday.  Not that any of them were bad but I was born on July 4th and didn't really get to have birthday parties other than with family because everyone was always on vacation or doing their own thing.  I know those were still good birthday's though too.

I remember once when I was about 7 or so I got my first bike!  I know I still had to be young because I think it had training wheels on it.  It had a basket on the front and the fringe on the handlebars.  I loved that bike and always tried to put our poor little cats in the basket.  I had that bike forever!!

One year they did a surprise one for me too, I had to be younger because my cake was a Gizmo cake.  I was so upset and crying because no one could come and then the doorbell rang and there they were!

I also remember another one from when I was about 15 or so I finally got to have some friends over for a party.  We played volley ball and all sorts of other stuff.  I don't have any photos because I guess I yelled at my dad when he came out to take pictures.  Used to hate having my picture taken!  I feel so bad because I know it hurt dad's feelings.  I don't even remember doing it but mom was just telling me about it when I asked her what I should write about for this week (see told you my memory sucked!)  and that was the one party she really remembered.

Sorry there aren't any pictures, I don't get to my mom's that often, only about every other month so I didn't have a chance to look at the old pictures.  I guess I need to borrow all her old albums and just start scanning!

Memory Lane Friday

Pin It This week's theme is 'My Dad'

This was for some Halloween party, can't remember the date.

What can I say about my Dad?  Hmmm....  hard to put into words but he is my dad, I love him and he is always there for me if I need him.  Growing up we didn't really get to see him that much because he was always working evenings or overnights.  It was hard to find time to do stuff with us because he was always sleeping during the day.

When I was around 4 or 5 we moved into a bigger house where my brother and I each had out own rooms!  That was so exciting for us.  Dad finally got onto the day shift so we actually got to see him more.   I can't remember if I was sick and he stayed home with me or if this was still when he was on the night shift but I remember sitting in his lap, watching Green Acres and eating raisins.  He would also 'drive' me and my baby to the Dr. which was over on the bay window seat and then he would come and pick us up again.  Not sure why but that is one of the best memories I have of him.

Other little memories I have is when I got a little play kitchen and my dad, uncle and grandpa were putting it together.  I hadn't heard that much yelling and cussing in a long time!  lol   I think it was that same year that my brother got a Rockem Sockem and we couldn't play with it because my dad and uncle kept playing with it. We had to beg them to let us play with it!
Not the exact play kitchen I had but the best I could find online.  Don't remember having any pictures of the real one.

Of course then going through the teen years, being the baby and girl of the family I didn't get to do much or go places.  I didn't understand it now but after being a parent I understand it more now.  He was being a little over protective but he didn't know any other way to be.  I hated him for it then but love him for it now

Last year around Easter he came and told us that he had cancer.  It was a shock and we were so scared even though he kept reassuring us that it would all be alright.  Thank God he was right!!  After several months of chemo, a little bit before Christmas they told him it was gone and he was in remission!  That was the best Christmas gift for all of us!
here is the link to that My Mad World

The day he told us he had cancer.  =(
This was daddy and Maddie when he was going through chemo.   =(

I am so thankful for what my dad did for us growing up.  He sacrificed some time with us but that was the only thing he knew to do to provide for us and to give us what we needed.  He is a very hard worker and now that I am older he is such a bear.  Don't get me wrong he still gets the mean Daddy tone with me but at least now I'm an hour away so I have some time to run if I have too!

Here is dad and Maddie the day after we came home with her.

Happy Father's Day Daddy, I love you!!!!

Memory Lane Friday's

Ok, this is my first time doing the Memory Lane Friday's.  I got it from a fellow blogger at Two Bears Farm.  Mine won't be nearly as interesting or well written as everyone else's though.
The theme for this week is
'A Time I was Scared'

We went to visit my Aunt and Uncle and stayed fairly late.  I can't even remember how old I was, probably 8 or 9 years old, they were watching a movie so my brother and I watched it too.

The movie was Poltergeist.  I think that was the first scary movie I had ever seen.   I am surprised we got to watch it since they didn't allow us to watch that stuff.
I know it wasn't my last but it was my last for awhile.  It really freaked me out and I really didn't want to sleep by myself for awhile after that.

Like I had said this was a long time ago and unfortunately I don't have the best memory anymore.  The only thing I can remember is that movie is what made me freak out anytime my closet door was open and it was time to go to bed and the bush outside my window really scared me too because it was constantly scratching on my window like that tree that tried to eat the boy. I was also afraid of what might be under my bed, and didn't really want to look because I didn't want to find that nasty clown! (I still don't really like clowns, they freak me out with that crazy face paint!)  Anytime I used to go to the bathroom I would always kick the shower curtain and open it really fast to make sure nothing was in there.  (although I can't really remember anything like that in the movie)

I finally got over that about the time I got to go stay with my best friend and she had Nightmare on Elmstreet and that movie really scared the crap out of me too!!!  Had problems going to sleep for awhile after that one too but of course we all know you weren't supposed to sleep anyways because Freddy would get you if you did!  I was prob in Jr. High when we watched this one but we weren't allowed to watch scary movies or violent stuff, I was a little sheltered and got scared very easily.

So that is my lame story about 'The Time I was Scared'  I have set here since yesterday trying to come up with something from my childhood that scared me and this is the only thing I could think of.   That's either a good thing or a really sad thing.  lol
